Welcome to Lakshmi College of Education, Gandhigram.

Lakshmi College of Education is a constituent unit of Gandhigram Trust, Gandhigram, TamilNadu. The Gandhigram Trust emerged with the blessings of Gandhiji on 7th October 1947 for organizing the Gandhian constructive programmes in Tamil Nadu, under the leadership of Dr.T.S.Soundram and Dr. G. Ramachandran, the disciples of Gandhiji. At present Gandhigram has grown into a cluster of institutions providing opportunities for general education, training of rural teachers and workers, rehabilitation of women and children, medical and health service and propagation of Khadi and village industries.

In 1967, realizing the need and importance of dedicated teachers, especially women teachers in nation building and to work in rural areas, Dr. SoundaramAmma started a teacher training centre. To start this institute she sought the help of her mother Srimathi Lakshmi Ammal who readily gave away her golden bangles to meet the initial expenses. The training Institute was hence named after her mother as Lakshmi Teacher Training Centre which was later renamed as Lakshmi College of Education. Located in an enchanting valley flanked by the Sirumalais and lower Palanis, the place enjoys a salubrious climate with a stimulation for learning, research and service to the people.
